“During a 2011 visit to the Berlin studio of Thomas Zipp, I asked the artist what he did with his painter’s jackets when he discarded them, suggesting they belonged hanging on a wall. Zipp immediately took off his jacket and handed it to me.

For years I tried to imagine what kind of work I might make using this jacket. The world took a turn in 2016 which answered my question and prompted this apotropaic action.”
